Update: Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC)

A stronger, more powerful watchdog – will commence operation on 1 July 2025.

The Victorian Parliament has passed the Building Legislation Amendment (Buyer Protections) Bill 2025, establishing the BPC as the new regulatory agency which combines the functions of the Victorian Building Authority, Domestic Building Disputes Resolution Victoria, and the domestic building insurance functions of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority.

Essentially, the BPC will be a one-stop shop for registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic insurance. You can read more about its powers and responsibilities in our earlier post here.

The BPC’s commencement will not affect existing claims, and all existing VMIA policies will automatically transfer to the new body.

To find out more about how you may be affected or if you’d like to lodge a claim with the BPC, please reach out to us.
